How Did Early Muslims Regard the Quran? | Part 2 | Dr. Shabir Ally

To understand the position of #hadith in Islam, we first need to understand how the #Quran was initially understood by the early community of #Muslims. The Quran declares itself to be the word of God. According to many verses in the Quran, #God has promised to preserve the Quran's words and message to humanity. The Quran cautions that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) could not invent anything and claim it was from God. The Prophet Muhammad was commanded to recite and preach the Quran and he instructed his followers to memorize and write down the Quran. Though he was the primary interpreter of the Quran, he still had to follow the Quran and could not make judgments that went against it. According to Dr. Shabir Ally, we must strike a balance when evaluating the Quran, on the one hand, and the hadith, on the other; otherwise, people will try to conflate the two and make use of particular hadiths even when they are in contradiction with the Quran.
