Fortunately, there are modern solutions to evaluating hadiths that pre-modern scholars did not always consider in depth. The classical scholars' criteria for sorting true and false hadiths was primarily concerned with the evaluation of the chain of narrators (isnad). Were these narrators trustworthy or not? However, a more modern approach is to ask if the content and words of the hadith (matn) are an accurate reflection of what we know about the Quran and the Messenger (peace be upon him).
