A Front Yard TROPICAL Food Forest in Tampa!
Welcome back to The Green Yard! Today we’re continuing our Florida food forest tour series with a visit to Gonza Gardens in Tampa. In this video, we explore the front yard of a high-density tropical food forest where KC and her husband are growing an incredible diversity of fruit trees, edible plants, and tropical species on just 0.17 acres. This garden combines permaculture-inspired design with thoughtful plant selection to maximize productivity while still keeping the landscape beautiful. During the tour we check out mangoes, jaboticaba, miracle fruit, mulberries, Barbados cherry, sapodilla, and many other tropical and subtropical plants growing together in a layered food forest system. KC also shares how the garden handled a historic Florida freeze where temperatures dropped to 0°C (32°F), and how thoughtful planting design helps protect sensitive tropical trees. Gonza Gardens is a great example of what’s possible when you combine creativity, planning, and a passion for growing your own food. This is Part 1 of the Gonza Gardens tour. Stay tuned for Part 2 where we explore the backyard portion of this incredible high-density food forest.
