Mugello 1976, il racconto del primo GP mondiale: Ago, Sheene, due vittime, lo stesso layout #motogp

Mugello marked the fiftieth anniversary of its first Grand Prix motorcycle racing event, held in May 1976. Nico Cereghini, then a 500cc class rider on a Suzuki RG500, told René Pierotti what happened that day: two deaths, eighty crashes in three days, and a second-lap seizure that sent him crashing at San Donato. The cause, discovered years later, was a water leak in the fuel tank shared by private drivers. Barry Sheene prevailed in the race, ahead of Phil Read, with Virginio Ferrari third. The circuit layout remains identical to today, but in 1976 there were almost no run-off areas, and the riders raced with wooden poles at the edge of the track. Cereghini, who at the time was also editor-in-chief of the newspaper Il Pilota Moto, had written about the danger of those poles a week before the race: he was later questioned by the magistrate after the two deaths. The Suzuki RG500 cost eight million lire, equivalent to about €45,000 today, and private individuals shared it with very few spare parts, Fiat 238 vans, and hotel rooms for three. 00:00 First memories at Mugello in 1975 04:20 The Suzuki RG500 08:10 The identical layout and the two deaths in May 1976 13:30 The race: seizure, crash, and the Sheene-Read duel 19:45 The discovery of water leakage 24:00 Private life: van, hotel for three, and pure passion Interview by René Pierotti with Nico Cereghini ________________________________________________________________________ Buy our clothing: https://link.moto.it/3TP0A5j Find your used motorcycle: https://www.moto.it/moto-usate IG:   / motoit   FB:   / moto.it   Telegram: https://t.me/+SI91PIKXQSLJtnRw
