2026.05.01 The Extracorporeal Hour
This session of The Extracorporeal Hour meeting focuses on discussing rare cases of magnesium toxicity and vitamin D intoxication in veterinary patients. EH host, Dr Cedric Dufayet presents a challenging case of an 8-year-old dog with severe hypermagnesemia (10 mg/dL) following an accidental ingestion of Dulcolax laxative, which led to acute kidney injury and neurological symptoms. The group discusses monitoring protocols for PTT versus ACT machines, with recommendations for more frequent monitoring than every 6 hours. Treatment approaches for vitamin D toxicity are also reviewed.
