In my journey as an artist, I have long benefited from using reference photos to paint from and make no apologies for it. I feel that the photos I take are as much a part of my artistic process as my drawing and painting. I look for images that excite me visually with intriguing light and shadow patterns. It is in my photos that I first try to create good compositions. I do have one stipulation, and that is that I only paint from my own photographs. Otherwise the artwork cannot be considered original.
