In today's video from the Anzol na Água Pesca e Camping channel, you'll follow a very special family fishing trip: Tiago's first official fishing trip! 👶🎣 You asked for it a lot, and today, at 8 months old, it was the first time he went to the river to participate in another video with us. 📍 The chosen destination was a new spot, located in Volta Grande, Morretes neighborhood, in Nova Santa Rita (RS), on the banks of the Caí River. We accessed it through Tio Paulo's Camping and followed the riverbank for about 3 km, passing several fishing spots until we found a free spot with shade — essential, since Tiago was with us. Near the abandoned manor house, in one of the last fishing spots on the farm, we found a free bank with a very good structure: shade, barbecue grill, and everything clean to enjoy the day of fishing. In addition, there was plenty of firewood nearby, which made things much easier. There we unloaded all the fishing gear and started setting up our equipment to begin fishing. 🎣 I started by preparing the famous vanilla dough to attract carp, I also used pieces of guava to try for grass carp and chicken liver to catch catfish, such as jundiá and pintado. After casting all the rods into the water, we spread a mat on the riverbank for Tiago to play on while Tássia gathered firewood and I watched the lines. Without much action in the morning, we started preparing the fire for lunch — and of course, it couldn't be anything else: a traditional barbecue cooked over an open fire on the banks of the Caí River 🔥🥩 As soon as we put the meat on to cook, the first bites began… but I soon noticed something strange: when reeling in the line, I found a fish cut in half. That's when we understood—we were accompanied by the dreaded piranhas (palometas) 😱 A small fish caught just minutes before came back completely destroyed. And as we know, where there are piranhas, other fish rarely come near. They devour everything, especially carp, which were our target, attacking fins and tails. Even so, since we were already well settled and knowing that the rivers in the region are teeming with them, we decided to stay put. And that's how our fishing continued: with each retrieve, one or two small fish came up on the bait—all devoured by the piranhas. With the grill ready, we just put the meat on to cook. A tumble on each side and soon our lunch was ready. While we ate, Tiago took his afternoon nap, and we continued to constantly check the bait… but the situation only worsened. We stayed for a few more hours until he woke up. Around 5 PM, as the day drew to a close and it was also a good time for carp fishing, I made a more resistant bait, trying to avoid the small fish and keep the piranhas at bay—but it wasn't enough. We enjoyed the rest of the day as a family and decided to end the fishing trip, since it would be difficult at night with Tiago on the riverbank because of mosquitoes and insects. Even though it was one of the best times to fish, we knew we couldn't extend it any longer that day.
