Classic TV Themes: The Tomorrow People (four versions)

A British sci-fi series for children, 'Tomorrow People' began in 1973 on ITV in Britain. It would come to the USA via Nickelodeon. Roger Price conceived the idea of teens who were the next stage of evolution with special powers. Stories were serialized, running for several episodes until a new story would begin. It ran for eight seasons; even with the shorter seasons in the UK that's a pretty good run for a kids' show. The opening was distinctive, with stills, zooms, and eerie music from Dudley Simpson ('Doctor Who', 'Blakes 7' etc). There was more to come however; we'll explain as we go along. • Original series: Two opening sequences and one set of closing credits are included. • Reboot: Roger Price came to the US and developed shows for Nickelodeon. He conceived doing a more up-to-date version of TP and the 1992 series was born. It would run for three short seasons with a total of 25 episodes and five storylines. It got off to a rocky start but was starting to find its footing with the second storyline. The first season (five episodes) had a theme by Tim Pitt and Bobby Boughton. It was replaced in seasons 2-3 with a theme by Tony Flynn stylistically closer to Dudley Simpson's original. Both themes included here. (Watch for 'Cathy Bell' and 'Mel Gibson' in the closing credits, though they aren't the famous ones.) • 2013 Reboot: The CW can ruin most any concept, and they didn't disappoint with this 'adult' version of TP. 'Nuff said. The show had no main title sequence, but did have music (by David E Russo) over the end credits, which conclude this video.
