Catedral de Tui. Uma "Fortaleza" da Galiza Segundo o historiador Murguía, “Quase todas as catedrais ocupam um antigo lugar sagrado". A catedral de Tui assenta nos alicerces do antigo castro batizado Castellum Tude, onde o sagrado se mistura com o bélico. Esta basílica / fortaleza foi muito importante na origem da cidade, do primitivo castro à moderna Tui. A antiga diocese de Tui englobou desde o século V até 1444, o sudoeste da província de Pontevedra, e a região de Entre Lima-e-Minho agora território português. Por isso a história desta catedral, é mais antiga do que a fundação do reino de Portugal. A cidade de Tui foi saqueada em várias ocasiões pelos vikings, e por consequência disso os bispos ausentaram-se da sede episcopal por vários anos. O rei Garcia da Galiza restaurou a sede episcopal por volta do ano 1067 e a Infanta Urraca dotou a diocese de Santa Maria no ano 1070 de propriedades que permitiriam o início da construção da catedral. A catedral tem aparência de fortificação, especialmente devido a suas torres com merlões e ameias. Sendo um edifício robusto, preparado para a defesa, era o último reduto dos clérigos durante uma invasão. Assim não precisavam de se ausentar de Tui. A construção da catedral foi iniciada no século XII, em 1120, mas só foi consagrada em 1225 sob o reinado de Afonso IX. É de arquitetura românica principalmente. Mais tarde foram acrescentados elementos de estilo gótico, como o claustro e provavelmente foi a primeira construção de toda a Galiza nesse estilo. Foi construído no século XIV.
