Tui (or Tuy 2023 in Spanish) is a Spanish Bordertown in the region of Galicia. The river and the bridge mark the border between Spain and Portugal. The town was originally known by the ancient Greeks under Ptolemy as Tude. On top of the hill lies an impressive cathedral from the 11th century with a roman architecture combined with gothic elements from later centuries. Due to it's location at the border the city was fortified in medieval times. The town has been raided twice by the Moors and the Vikings but was repopulated. As a frontier city it played an important role in the wars between Portugal and Castile. Tui has nowadays a population of 17,000.
