We spent four days in Marseille after racing through Rome, Vienna, and Budapest, and it ended up being the reset we needed. Well...mostly. We arrived during the first big cruise ship weekend of the season, when more than 32,000 passengers poured into the city. Marseille looked nothing like we remembered from our family trip in 2015 or Terri's visit in March 2017. The second weekend of April turned out to be a zoo. Even so, we had a fantastic time. We made a point of getting beyond Vieux-Port and the busiest tourist areas whenever we could. Join us as we wander all over Marseille, rack up far more steps (and stairs) than we planned, eat some memorable meals, survive a hotel fire alarm, start planning Tunisia, and explore some of our favorite corners of the city. Don't skip Marseille. Just check the cruise ship schedule before you book. Then, once you're there, venture a little farther from the obvious sights. We think you'll be glad you did.
