"The Adventure of the Retired Colourman" is a Sherlock Holmes short story by Arthur Conan Doyle. The story begins with Sherlock Holmes being hired by Josiah Amberley, a retired art supply dealer, whose young wife and a neighbor, Dr. Ray Ernest, have seemingly vanished with a large sum of money and securities. Amberley is convinced they have eloped and wants them tracked down. Holmes, busy with another case, sends Dr. Watson to Amberley's house in Lewisham to gather initial observations.
