In Japanese, kushi (串) refers to the skewers while katsu means a deep-fried cutlet of meat. Kushikatsu can be made with beef, chicken, pork, bacon, seafood, potato, and seasonal vegetables. How to cook: Skewered on bamboo kushi dipped in a batter of egg and flour, and panko; Then deep-fried in vegetable oil. May be served straight or with several choices of sauces, sweet and tangy tonkatsu sauce being the most popular.
