If you are interested, please send me a DM on my Instagram channel. / amillionthingsaboutjapan --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is summer here in Japan. You may have heard that summer is very hot and difficult to deal with, but I believe that there are so many great things about summer in Japan. I want to introduce them to you today! There are many events across Japan, such as fireworks festivals. The Sumida River Fireworks Festival is very popular and probably the most famous one in the Tokyo area. It has a long history dating back to the Edo Period. Our fireworks festivals are distinctly Japanese, and we celebrate them by wearing yukata and cheering for fireworks. If you visit Japan, you should definitely wear a yukata! Yukata are a casual type of kimono that are worn in summer and also when visiting onsen. But there is a traditional way to wear one, so if you are interested in trying it, I have a couple of tips for you. We also have many summer foods to enjoy, such as unagi ( grilled eel ), kakigoori ( shaved ice ) and suika ( watermelon ). But my favorite is probably somen, which are thin noodles that are served cold. I really feel like it is summer when eating somen. Lastly, almost everyone in Japan knows that summer is time for Koshien, the National High School Baseball Tournament in the Kansai region. It is a traditional summer event and very inspirational. High school baseball players try to achieve their dream of winning it all on the biggest stage and many famous Japanese professional baseball players first earned recognition at Koshien, such as Shohei Ohtani, Hideki Matsui and Yu Darvish. You may hear that summer is the worst time to visit Japan. It is true that there are some negatives such as the extreme heat, but I believe that there is a brightside and some great things to experience in summer too! video credits: • 2025年 夏の甲子園 全国高等学校野球選手権大会 エンディング ノンフィクションズ... • 花卷東高校 大谷翔平 2012夏季甲子園160キロ • 【高校野球】鳥栖工・女子マネージャーが誰よりも熱かった!泣きながら甲子園の土を集める... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 👉 Subscribe now to A Million Things About Japan for more deep dives into Japanese culture, traditions, food, and travel tips. 💬 Drop a comment below: Are you interested in summer activities, such as a firework festival?
