Aimed at secondary school teachers SPEAK Underpaid, relegated to the domestic sphere of spinning and weaving, mere support for fathers and husbands: this is the long-held image of the relationship between women and work in the Middle Ages. For at least thirty years, however, scholars have debunked such stereotypes, revealing a far more diverse and dynamic economic reality than previous representations, in which even the presence of women was anything but marginal and sporadic. Document analysis can provide a more complete picture of this reality, made up of female entrepreneurs and wage workers, haberdashers, weavers, hoteliers, doctors, and even laborers on construction sites. SPEAKER Valeria Novembri is a scholar of antiquity and a secondary school literature teacher. She has taught at the University of Siena and was a research fellow at the University of Genoa. She works as an editorial consultant and is the author of school textbooks.
