QuickBooks Bank Rules: Beyond the Basics
Most people build one bank rule in QuickBooks Online, watch it work, and never touch that settings panel again. But bank rules can do a lot more than match a vendor name to a category. You can filter rules by bank account, stack multiple conditions together, decide whether a transaction has to meet all of those conditions or just one of them, and control the order QuickBooks applies your rules in. Used well, these settings turn your bank feed from something you're constantly correcting into something you can actually trust. In this video, I walk through how to build bank rules from scratch in QuickBooks Online so you can access all of the advanced options, including filtering by specific bank account (especially useful if you're using class or location tracking), the difference between "Any" and "All" conditions, how rule priority determines which rule QuickBooks applies first, and why I recommend keeping Auto-post turned off until you've confirmed a new rule is working the way you expect. If you've ever wondered why a bank rule doesn't seem to be firing the way you thought it would, there's a good chance the answer is sitting in one of these advanced settings.
