Australia Had The Best Fighter Of The 1950's...Almost: CAC CA-23

In this video, we take a look at the CAC CA-23, an Australian jet fighter design from the Cold War and/or Korean War era. We first talk about the history of Australia and their slow pulling away from British rule, before moving to the midpoint of them pulling away in the 1940's and 50's, where they had independence and only mild influence from Britain. We talk about their military and aircraft, and how they did and still do heavily rely on other countries for aircraft, and how they wanted a more modern stable of fighters. We then talk about how they elected to stay domestic, with the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation, for their next generation of fighters in the CA-23. We talk about it's incredible projected performance and how, if successful, it would be the fastest fighter in the world by a large margin. We talk about its potential flaws, and how it ended up failing not because of these flaws, but rather Britain interfering and pushing their own designs. We end by talking about the lasting presence, or lack thereof, of British aircraft in the Australian Military.
