Sharon Springs and its many hotels were often visited by many of the rich and famous. U.S. Presidents Martin Van Buren, Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D Roosevelt, the Vanderbilt’s, stayed here. Charles Dickens, James Fenimore Cooper, Oscar Wilde, the Macys of NYC, as well The Van Rensselaer family, Steven Spielberg, Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray, Mindy Cohen and Rosie O’Donnell all visited Sharon Springs. The village historian, who owns the Roseboro Hotel, gives a fascinating rundown of how the village rose to fame, and lost its luster in the early 21st century.
