MYR - 'U Shwe Yoe & Daw Moe Dance' (Traditional Dance)

U Shwe Yoe and Daw Moe dance (Myanmar comedy dance) Rather than a classic , this dance is an example of contemporary Myanmar folk art. The dance has appeared out of the custom of entertaining the crowd, especially volunteers taking part in Flag day or at community charitable activities. It purpose is to inspire people to donate and to do meritorious deeds for the betterment of next lives. The names U Shwe Yoe and Daw Moe are fictitious and chosen for their rhyming effect. The roles are on old bachelor, U Shwe Yoe and one spinster, Daw Moe , the latter played by either a male or female dancer. The costumes are bizarre and flamboyant , with the indispensable elements of U Shwe Yoe’s moustache and a twirling Pathein parasol. In a jocular manner, he emotes his love and makes a pass at Daw Moe, while she responds evasively and artfully. This video project is the Myanmar draditional dance, U Shwe Yoe and Daw Moe which will play the two grade-3 students , Ms. Shwe Yi Thet Aung and Kyae Sin Thwe. U Shwe Yoe dances with his comic moustache and comic movements trying to woo the spinster Daw Moe . He dances to the rhythmic sounds of the accompanying instrumental piece, dobat or double-faced short drum, cymbals and bamboo clappers . To present this traditional dance , we communicated our school communities and discuss the Intangible Cultural Heritage in our school and we decided to show the Myanmar traditional dance, U Shwe Yoe and Daw Moe Dance. We selected the two students who got the First Prize in School Family Day hold in January , 2015. The names U Shwe Yoe and Daw Moe are fictitious and chosen for their rhyming effect . There is no established melody for the dance.
