Check out this week's video about the Giant Poodle, with Gilberto Miranda. --------------------------------------------------- Giant Poodle Kennel - Show Dogs (11) 99318-8310 --------------------------------------------------- The Poodle (in French: caniche), according to the Fédération Cynologique Internationale, originated in France, having been claimed, but it had long been bred in Central European countries such as Germany.[1] Originally, it was used as a waterfowl hunting dog. It is considered the second most intelligent breed in the world, according to the list compiled by Stanley Coren. Historically, it was a breed bred to work in water, with one of its cuts designed to reduce friction and protect against the cold in its most delicate areas, such as the legs and chest. For a time, the French claimed the creation of the breed. However, more recent references and studies show that its origins are indeed German, although it has been influenced by other breeds, such as the Barbet, of French origin.[2] In a brief summary of the breed's origins, the Fédération Cynologique Internationale lists France as the country where these dogs originated. Physically, the poodle ranges in size from large to toy, with the larger specimens being the kindest, most submissive, and healthiest, with sebaceous adenitis classified as their main disease. The physical qualities of the standard make it a good companion dog for families living on large farms, such as farms.[2] Smaller variants—called medium, miniature, and toy—have existed since the 1700s, although they were only recognized in the 20th century. Some countries also recognize the dwarf variant, although for some, this doesn't make much sense, as this variety is not disproportionate. Poorly designed artificial crosses during the 1950s gave these diminutive canines a bad reputation, a reputation that has diminished over the years. These smaller variations were bred to produce companion dogs with a lifespan of nearly fifteen years (the longest, on average, among all dogs). More prone to disease than their larger relatives, they can suffer from halitosis, periodontal disease, hereditary blindness, and cataracts.[4] Adult gray toy poodle. The poodle ranges in weight from 32 to 2.5 kilograms, measuring from 25 to over 38 centimeters. Its coat comes in a variety of colors and can be curly, coiled, or even corded.[5] While training the standard variation is considered easy for inexperienced owners, training the smaller ones, while also easy due to their intelligence, proves somewhat more challenging.[2][4] Among the most famous poodles in human society are the dancers at parties in the grand salons hosted by the European aristocracy in the 16th century. In 1787, they were commissioned by Beethoven for the composition "Elegy on the Death of a Poodle."
