Originally bred for dog fighting, the Pit Bull today acts as an athletic dog in competitions, and as a boar hunting dog.[3] The Pit Bull is a medium-sized athletic dog of the Terrier type, and descends from the extinct Bull-and-Terrier, dogs that were the result of direct crossbreeding between the Old English Bulldog and the Old English Terrier.[3] The Bull-and-terrier was bred in the British Isles for hunting and fighting, and is generally credited as the sole ancestor of the Pit Bull, but some scholars speculate that upon arriving in the United States (in the 19th century), some Bull-and-terriers were crossed with the old Spanish Alano, thus giving rise to the Pit Bull.[4][5] The Pit Bull is not suitable for the role of residential/territorial guard, so that — according to the official breed standard of the United Kennel Club — it is a dog characteristically quite docile with strangers, which is an unfavorable quality for the role.[6] [7][8] Source: Wikipedia ------------------------------------------------------- #pitbull #trainer #gilbertomiranda
