Europe's No.1 Gerry Rafferty Tribute Show - 'Right Down The Line' - performs "Night Owl", live at Paisley Town Hall (10.05.25). The fifteenth release from our 'Hometown' show in Paisley is the second track, the first single, and indeed the title track from 1979's "Night Owl". The "Night Owl" album is Gerry's third solo album, and was the highly anticipated follow-up to the Platinum-selling "City To City". The song made the top five in the UK Singles Chart, while the album again reached 'Platinum' status. Like "Baker Street," the song is famously autobiographical to some degree, inspired by Rafferty's personal experiences of loneliness, and his searching for meaning within the trappings of stardom. It is a pitiless self-portrait of an artist using alcohol to blur the edges of a world in which what is real, and valuable, is sometimes effusive. Being one of Gerry's most enduring and popular compositions, we take great pleasure in bringing this song, with its infectious groove and ever-unravelling melody, back to life on stage.
