As he reached for the wall to steady himself, he felt carved letters beneath his fingers. Six lines of ancient Hebrew — unseen for 2,700 years. The inscription described a tunnel. Two teams, excavating in total darkness from opposite ends, working toward each other through solid limestone. 533 meters. Until their pickaxes met. The name of the king who ordered it? Nowhere in the inscription. But Scripture had recorded it. "He stopped the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon and directed them straight down to the west side of the City of David." — 2 Chronicles 32:30 "He made the pool and the conduit and brought water into the city." — 2 Kings 20:20 The inscription states 1,200 cubits. Converted: approximately 533 meters. Today's survey of the tunnel: 533 meters. The number carved in stone in the 8th century BC matches the measuring tape to within meters. In this episode, we trace four clues: the discovery, the inscription's content, the scientific dating (Nature, 2003), and the convergence of inscription, Scripture, and modern measurement at a single point.
