Then on July 21, 1993, a slanted ray of afternoon light fell across a basalt stone at Tel Dan in northern Israel. The shadows revealed carved letters no one had seen in 2,800 years. Nine letters. BYTDWD. "House of David." Inscribed by an enemy king — in enemy territory — roughly a century after David's death. This is the Tel Dan Stele: the first extra-biblical evidence of the Davidic dynasty ever found. And in 2024, French scholar Michaël Langlois re-confirmed the reading using RTI (Reflectance Transformation Imaging). We trace four clues: the moment of discovery, the identity of the inscription, the hand that carved it, and who buried it — and why. Then we follow the same word, beth (בית), from 2 Samuel 7 to Matthew 1:1. This channel doesn't preach.
