The system plays to the strengths of the front three, but is also tailored to the strengths of the rest of the team in its structure and the way it plays. Whilst counter-attacking is a vital part of Liverpool's attacking style, there is also room for controlled possession and high-tempo pressing as well. The counter-pressing is perhaps the most important aspect of the system. Players are instructed to immediately press in a considered way after losing the ball in order to win it back as quickly as possible. Should Liverpool not win the ball back within a few seconds, then they regain their shape and form a mid-block. This then allows them to hit teams on the counter with the pace of Salah and Mane. The full backs have license to surge forward as the most creative outlet in the team; whilst the three central midfielders are utility men to mop up and recycle posession for the front three and the full backs.
