Nova Scotia wildfires: Rainy weather leaves mainly "hot spots" remaining | FULL
Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Deputy Chief David Meldrum said during an update on Saturday afternoon that crews are mainly dealing with hot spots after rainy weather helped extinguish most of the open flames of the wildfires burning outside of Halifax. “There were a few small ones, largely it’s hot spots that are evidenced by smoke and by smell and they see that smoke starting to rise from the ground – and they’re going to have to dig that out,” Meldrum said. David Steeves, technician of forest resources for Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources and Renewables said earlier in the day that the 950-hectare wildfire is "85 per cent contained," and said during the afternoon update that if the forecast for the week ahead calls for more rain, "then we're going to be in a good spot." The fire in the Tantallon area is no longer deemed out of control, though, it may still be a while before the blaze is completely extinguished.
