‘Let The Record Reflect The Postmaster General Is Laughing’, Josh Hawley Slams Bonus Payouts
US Senator Josh Hawley questioned the Postmaster General regarding thousands of pieces of undelivered mail found in North St. Louis, Missouri. Hawley displayed a photograph showing tax documents, prescription drugs, and bills dumped near North Taylor Avenue on April 29. He highlighted that despite promises of a full investigation by the Postal Service, no updates were provided. During the exchange, the Postmaster General stated that this was the first time he had heard about the incident. Hawley criticized this lack of awareness, emphasizing that the distribution center's on-time delivery targets were being missed frequently. The Senator pointed out that the Inspector General previously identified the St. Louis distribution center as having severe distribution problems. Hawley then confronted the Postmaster General over executive compensation, noting that leaders received millions of dollars in bonuses over the last decade, including a recent bonus exceeding three hundred thousand dollars. When asked to pledge not to accept further bonuses until mail delivery improved, the Postmaster General declined. Hawley remarked, 'Let the record reflect the Postmaster General is laughing as he gets asked why he's taking bonuses while there's piles of undelivered mail in my state.'
