PC Recruitment: The realities of becoming a police officer
A career as a police officer is one of the most varied you can have - and also one of the most challenging. Long shifts, cancelled rest days, a difficult work-life balance, and throwing yourself into the middle of extremely volatile situations with the aim of protecting society's most vulnerable... these are the realities of being a PC. But it's also incredibly rewarding. We've just opened up for recruitment onto the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) course. This sees officers earning a degree alongside working as a regular officer. It's no easy task, but the job at the end of it truly is like no other. To help prospective candidates make a choice about whether it's the career for them, we've put together this short video featuring two of our newer PCs. In it, they talk about the challenges they faced during training, what the realities of the job are, and what it takes to make a success of it.
