Welcome back to the channel guys. On this video i decided to drive from Marrakesh city to Casablanca to visit the iconic Hassan II Mosque, this is the icon of Casablanca. This is one of the most remarkable, religious and architectural landmarks in the world. Work started on this mosque back in 1986 and was completed in 1993, it was designed by a French architect called Michel Pinseau. This is one of the largest mosques in the world with a capacity of up to 105,000 worshippers, its total area is approximately 172,600 meters squared. Standing out from far you will see the beautiful traditional Moroccan style minaret (the tall tower) its one of the tallest in the world standing at 210 meters high (689 ft) the minaret houses a lift what reaches the top in under 1 minute. There is a laser at the top of the minaret which projects towards Mecca with a reach of around 30 km. Build over the Atlantic Ocean partially constructed on land reclaimed from the sea, symbolising the Qur'anic verse about the "throne of the God upon water" it symbolises purity, creation and the spiritual connection between land, sea and sky. The main prayer hall has a roof that cal open allowing the worshipers to hear the ocean waves and feel the cool breeze in the hot summer days. Many parts of the mosque was hand crafted using moroccan materials such as cedar wood, marble and mosaic tiles. It also holds many imported Murano glass chandeliers. This is an icon of the country and its religion and it is open to the public muslim and non-muslim. There is a museum and educational space inside separate to the prayer space for visitors to see and learn from. A guided tour may be the only way non-muslims can enter the mosque as there is security outside, these are held many times throughout the day excluding prayer times. Morning tours are the usually the best time to visit as its less crowded and plenty of day light for them perfect pictures. Fridays may be limited due to the large Jumma prayer in the afternoon. Tickets are available at the visitors counter next to the mosque at a cost. Consider arriving 30 minutes early to secure a spot specially in high seasons. MODEST clothing is a must at all times so if you are planning to visit the mosque please be covered so you are not refused at the entry point. The requirements are shoulders must be covered, long full length pants or skirts must be worn. Women should wear a head scarf (not required) when entering the mosque. Video's and photos are allowed in the mosque, shoes are NOT allowed into the mosque so carry a small bag around for when entering to leave them in. Although the mosque is rich in classical islamic design it also includes modern features such as heated floors, automatic opening roof top, loud speaker system, titanium doors as well as being earthquake resistant. Its construction was meant to show the world that Morocco can blend heritage with innovation. BEST TIME TO VISIT definitely has to be during sunset guys. You won't be disappointed.
