Cáncer de endometrio, síntomas tempranos de alerta | Dr. William Guerrero
In this video, I'll talk about: Endometrial cancer, early warning symptoms. What is uterine cancer? Uterine cancer occurs when normal cells in the uterus transform into abnormal cells and grow uncontrollably. The uterus is the part of the body that houses the baby if you are pregnant. The uterus has a thin inner layer and a thick outer layer. There are different types of uterine cancer, but most begin in the cells of the thin inner lining. Uterine cancer can occur at any age, but it is much more common in people who have gone through menopause (menopause is the time in life when menstrual periods stop). What are the symptoms of uterine cancer? The most common symptom of uterine cancer is abnormal vaginal bleeding. Abnormal vaginal bleeding includes: ● Bleeding between menstrual cycles (when you don't have a period) ● Heavier menstrual bleeding than usual ● Any vaginal bleeding if you have gone through menopause. These symptoms can also be caused by conditions other than cancer. But if you have these symptoms, tell your doctor or nurse. Is there a test to detect uterine cancer? Yes. If you have abnormal vaginal bleeding, your doctor or nurse may order a test called a biopsy to check for uterine cancer. During a biopsy, a doctor takes a small sample of tissue from the uterine lining. Another doctor views the sample under a microscope to see if there is cancer. If you have already gone through menopause, you may first have an imaging test called an ultrasound to check for uterine cancer. This test measures the thickness of the uterine lining. If the lining looks abnormal, a biopsy will be performed. What is cancer staging? Cancer staging is a way doctors find out how far the cancer has spread, and how treatment decisions are made. Treatment Most people with cancer undergo surgery to remove the uterus, ovaries, and the tubes that connect the ovaries to the uterus (fallopian tubes). This surgery is called a hysterectomy. During surgery, the doctor will also check the area and organs surrounding the uterus to see if the cancer has spread. They may also remove other organs that look abnormal. Some people will not need further treatment after surgery if the surgery removes the cancer. But other people may need further treatment with one or both of the following: ●Chemotherapy – Chemotherapy is the medical term for drugs that kill cancer cells or prevent their growth. ●Radiotherapy – Radiation destroys cancer cells. Radiation can be delivered from a machine outside the body, or a doctor can place a radiation source directly into the vagina. Some people may be treated with hormonal medications called progestins instead of surgery, but this is done only in special situations. What happens after treatment? After treatment, you will be monitored periodically to see if the cancer has returned. Your doctor will perform an exam. Follow-up tests may include blood tests and imaging studies, such as X-rays or CT scans. Imaging studies create pictures of the inside of the body. You should also watch for symptoms of abnormal vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, or a persistent cough. Tell your doctor or nurse if you have these symptoms, as they could mean the cancer has returned. What happens if the cancer returns or spreads? If the cancer returns or spreads, further surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy may be necessary. What if I want to get pregnant in the future? If you have not yet gone through menopause and want to have a baby in the future, talk to your doctor before starting treatment. You will not be able to get pregnant after a hysterectomy or radiation therapy. If you need to undergo one of these treatments, your doctor or nurse can discuss other options with you to increase your family in the future.
