The event was attended by the Mayor of Sant'Agnello, Antonino Coppola, the President of EAV Umberto De Gregorio, and the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca. ----------------------------------------------- "" Press release from the Municipality of Sant'Agnello Municipality of Sant’Agnello Press release SANT’AGNELLO EAV STATION INAUGURATED, RENOVATION COMPLETED The Sant’Agnello EAV station was inaugurated this morning, renovated following the €1.7 million project funded by Law 297/78. Mayor Antonino Coppola, the President of the Ente Autonomo Volturno, Umberto De Gregorio, and the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, attended the event. The project included modernizing the structure, seismic retrofitting, removing architectural barriers, and installing an elevator, all while respecting the historical value and original facades, as determined by the Superintendency as a 1948 project designed by architect Marcello Canino. "77 years ago, in January, Sant'Agnello heard the sound of a train for the first time in its station," said Mayor Antonino Coppola, "at the conclusion of the reconstruction work on the stretch from Naples to Sorrento, extending beyond the Castellammare Terme terminal. This morning, we finally returned the renovated Sant'Agnello station to the citizens. More modern, more functional, and more accessible. It is a project that belongs to the community, the result of a long process, which we are now completing after numerous discussions with President Umberto De Gregorio and the EAV technicians, whom I thank for their dedication in overcoming unforeseen events and difficulties. The underlying theme remains sustainable mobility on the Sorrento Peninsula, and we hope that soon, with the arrival of the new trains, we will be able to have an efficient Circumvesuviana and a service that is in step with the times. The station has been reopened after recent renovations and has been operational for passenger service since the start of service this morning. Note from the Mayor regarding off-topic statements: "We thought the inauguration of the station could be an opportunity for a constructive discussion, including on the hospital issue, a topic that emerged out of context during institutional speeches in the usual manner unbecoming of the role and the moment. Certain attitudes are always disappointing, and we would have preferred other approaches that respected everyone. To say that the Single Hospital was a joke is unacceptable; we have always brought valid arguments, supported by facts, and a series of critical issues to the table. And even the court recognized this in its recent ruling. At the end of the meeting, the inclusion of hemodynamics among the hospital's services was also brought up, a completely new development, an issue we have always championed, despite the decisions already made, which affect hospitals even outside Italy, telling a different story. It sounded like an election campaign statement. Meanwhile, citizens are waiting for a response to the current healthcare situation, notoriously critical nationwide, which the single-hospital issue always tends to overshadow.
