Le campane del Monastero di Astino, Bergamo - Concerto e distesa

The monastery of Astino was founded in 1107, following the purchase of a vineyard owned by a goldsmith. The buyer granted it to a congregation of monks, who began building a church dedicated to the Holy Sepulchre in 1111. The title reflected the success achieved during the glorious First Crusade, meeting with the approval of the population of Bergamo. Astino became the first monastery in the city, which was struck in 1117 by a catastrophic earthquake that devastated the whole of northern Italy. The faithful began to make substantial donations to churches, allowing the abbot to inaugurate the new hospital in 1142: a medieval institution on the main pilgrimage routes. In 1305, the consortium merged with the Misericordia, a charitable organisation founded in 1265 to help the poor. In the 14th century, the monastery had taken on an imposing layout, dominated by the cloistered wing that formed a large central courtyard. In 1403, after plagues, famines and economic difficulties, the monastery was entrusted to an external abbot. The church was enlarged in the 16th century and embellished with a cycle of frescoes. The ancient tower was demolished in 1579 to make way for the new bell tower, built above the sacristy. In 1582, a painter from Florence created a magnificent painting depicting the Last Supper in the monks' refectory. In 1797, Napoleon decreed the closure of abbeys, which is why it was converted into a psychiatric hospital. The foundation has restored the complex, which was officially reopened for Expo 2015. The bell tower houses a concert of three bells in F major, two of which were restored by Pruneri at the end of the Second World War. The third bell dates back to 1761 and is one of the very few remaining Santini castings. The small museum set up in the chapter house houses a fourth bell, commissioned by the abbot in 1653 to mark the three daily Angelus prayers. f' - a' - c'' The bells are rung by very young bell ringers, who are technically very skilled in performing the traditional concert. The boys climbed the beautiful bell tower, enjoying the magnificent view during the Feast of the Ascension. #foryou #bells #cinematic #concert #church #bell #2025 #italy #easter #catholicchurch #vlogs #travel #landscape
