The city of Madrid has suffered intense snowfall never seen in more than forty years. Storm Filomena arrived on January 9, 2021, kicking off the year with a blizzard in the capital and other nearby communities. The storm left unprecedented scenes in the city, paralyzed by a layer of snow of more than 60 centimeters, blanketing iconic landmarks such as Gran Vía, Plaza España, and Plaza Mayor, among other monuments. Dozens of Madrid residents skied in the city's most central streets, and despite the weather and the cold, residents even found an opportunity to enjoy themselves on sleds. In addition, improvised music and dancing took over the famous Puerta del Sol, marking a historic weekend in Madrid.
