Downtown Indianapolis Railroading - The Avon Turn

The Indiana Railroad runs train SAAVT every day, to exchange cars with CSX. The move begins at INRD's Senate Avenue Yard and winds through Indianapolis, making way to CSX's massive Avon Yard completes the interchange, and returns. This video catches the train making the first leg of the turn on a Saturday morning, in four locations: West Avenue near Senate Avenue Yard, State Avenue, the diamond at CP Dale, and at the trainshed adjacent to the Indianapolis Union Station. The moves are mapped to make it easier to understand them. Will the train take the Belt out east before swinging back west? Or, will it get onto the Louisville & Indiana to cut the distance? The red & white locomotives look fantastic pulling a long train made up in one half of intermodal stacks, and the other half mixed freight. It was fun to see an ancient Pillsbury hopper near the front of the train.
