So come, let us begin this sacred journey into the land of Mahadev. Har Har Mahadev. to truly understand the pure energy of this temple, we have to go back to the time of the Mahabharata. The Shiva Purana tells us a very deep story about absolute devotion. After the great Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas were filled with heavy guilt. They had won the war, but they had killed their own gurus and relatives, committing the grave sin of Gotra-hatya. Seeking forgiveness and liberation from this burden, they first went to Kashi, our holy Varanasi, hoping to get Darshan of Bhagwan Shiva. But Mahadev was deeply hurt by the destruction of the war and did not want to give them Darshan so easily. So, He left Kashi and disappeared into the Garhwal Himalayas. The Pandavas, driven by pure devotion, left everything behind and followed Him all the way to these high mountains. To test their Bhakti, God Shiva took the form of a divine Bull and hid among a herd of cattle in the valley. Bhima, who was a true and pure devotee of the God, realized that this was no ordinary bull. As the Bull tried to sink into the earth to disappear, Bhima rushed forward. He did not use his physical power, but with the pure strength of his devotion, he held onto the hump of the Bull. Because of this unwavering Bhakti, Bhagwan Shiva melted. He finally gave them Darshan and freed them from their sins. During this divine moment, the body of the Lord appeared in five different sacred places in these mountains, which we now worship as the Panch Kedar. His face appeared at Rudranath, His arms at Tungnath, His navel at Madhyamaheshwar, His hair at Kalpeshwar, and the sacred hump remained right here. That is why the Swayambhu Vigraha inside the Kedarnath temple is worshipped in the shape of a triangular hump. The word Kedar actually means a field, and Nath means the Lord. So, Kedarnath is the Lord of the Field. But this is not an ordinary field of crops. It is the field of liberation, where the seeds of our bad karma are completely destroyed, and the soul finally achieves Moksha.
