TERAPIA CANINA. NUESTROS AMIGOS LOS PERROS

OUR FRIENDS THE DOGS More and more prisons are finding inmates with mental health problems. At Albolote Prison in Granada, they have the PAIEM (Comprehensive Care Program for the Mentally Ill), which offers a range of activities for these individuals. Now they have integrated dog-assisted therapy. The benefits of working with animals for people with mental illness are scientifically proven, and the Albolote Prison knows this. Society continues to stigmatize the prison population. The Albolote Prison administration has been a pioneer in introducing Animal-Assisted Therapy, in this case with dogs, in partnership with the Hospitalarias Fundación Purísima Concepción and the Hachiko company. Rufino, Pecas, and Teja are the therapists. For thousands of years, the interaction between humans and animals has been beneficial. Animal-assisted therapies arose from this experience. The reality in Albolote shows us that the "system" doesn't work for people diagnosed with mental health conditions outside either. Otherwise, many wouldn't end up here. Despite everything, Module 12 of this prison has all the necessary resources. The dog doesn't judge, doesn't understand pathologies or stigmas. It offers unconditional friendship, and its sincere gaze makes you feel human.
