MEMORIA MUJERES

WOMEN'S MEMORY 'We Are Memory' is a documentary co-directed by Carmen Cuadrado and Paula Álvarez that gives voice to older women from Mairena del Aljarafe, in Seville. Produced by La Luciérnaga Comunicación, the film comprises testimonies about family life, marital relationships, work, and sex, which emerge in the classroom of the Adult Education Center in that town. In this space called La Almazara, they share experiences and now have access to an education that was denied them when they were children. For almost all of these women, dropping out of primary school at a very young age is a common thread. A significant part of their lives unfolded during the Franco dictatorship. Terror, repression, the lack of freedoms, and even imprisonment are also part of their life experiences. Many things have changed in the period between when these women left school and their return to the classroom. Longing and nostalgia for certain moments in their lives don't prevent them from recognizing that equality isn't a gift, it's a daily struggle.
