Welcome to the video: DOCUMENTARY | Do228 Pollution Control | Oil Hunter on a Mission Operation over the Baltic Sea – With Pollution Control on a Mission Against Environmental Offenders At the beginning of August, as a passionate film and documentary producer and hobby pilot, I was able to produce a very special documentary with the Pollution Control Unit of the Cuxhaven Central Command for Maritime Emergencies. On board a Dornier Do 228, I and the crew flew out over the North Sea, continuing on to Flensburg, and from there to our target area – the Baltic Sea all the way up to Sweden. The mission: Patrolling against environmental offenders. The focus was on ships and tankers that could illegally discharge pollutants into the sea. On board was a three-person crew consisting of two experienced pilots and an operator who monitored the vessels at sea using state-of-the-art camera technology. We were on duty for over four hours – an impressive experience that demonstrates how important and successful the work of the Cuxhaven Central Command for Maritime Emergencies is. The Cuxhaven-based Central Maritime Emergency Command operates two Do 228 aircraft flown by Bundeswehr crews (Marinefliegergeschwader 3 Nordholz). This collaboration has proven successful over the years: The Do 228 is considered the "flying eye" in disaster situations on the North and Baltic Seas. Thanks to its excellent visibility, efficiency, and speed, it is an indispensable tool in the fight for clean oceans. As a pilot, I was particularly fascinated by the professionalism and precision of the two pilots and the operator on board. For me as a filmmaker, this production was an enormous challenge: A documentary from a mission means there are no second chances. Every scene has to be perfect from the first moment – this is the pinnacle of film production. The result, however, speaks for itself: impressive aerial footage, authentic impressions of the mission, and the rare opportunity to be part of this important work up close. I am proud and grateful to have been able to board the aircraft with Pollution Control to film this special mission over the Baltic Sea.
