You might be surprised to find that switching up your curly hair routine does good things for you. So I decided to try Swavy Curly Courtney's upright styling routine, all done in the shower. This routine reminded me a lot of Curly Susie's styling routine. Both are done in the shower with soaking wet hair. When I tried Susie's routine, I ended up with very little product left in my hair once it was dry, leaving it very frizzy and not super defined. I think a big part of this is my low porosity hair. Now...I know Courtney also has low porosity hair. I think one main difference here is that her hair also has a fine texture, which means that it's still resistant to water, but not quite as much as if it was coarse. My hair is more of a medium texture. So I did have to take this into consideration when choosing my products. I specifically chose some that were a thicker consistency in hopes that it would stick to my hair better. And it seems to have worked! I absolutely loved my results. I got an amazing amount of shrinkage and definition and my hair felt so moisturized. The volume was about the same for me, but I had some nice, juicy curl clumps and very little frizz. The biggest down side of this routine for me is the lack of definition at the root, which is hard to obtain when you're directing your hair away from your face for the entire routine.
