Please support me on Ko-fi https://ko-fi.com/otipeps0124 The Proto-Slavic language came from the Proto-Balto-Slavic branch of the Indo-European language in c. 1500 BC. It belonged to the satemic group of Indo-European languages. During the first 2000 years of the existence of Proto-Slavic (in the pre-Slavic era), there weren’t any dialectal changes, except for loaning words from Eastern Iranian and Germanic languages. The first users of this language are considered to have settled in the areas of west and central Ukraine and southern-east Poland. Next period – Proto-Slavic proper or Early Common Slavic is dated in the middle of the 1st millennium AD when changes in pronunciation began, but there aren’t reconstructed any breakups into dialects when those first occurred in Middle Common Slavic period (2nd half of the first millennium AD). It’s the version mostly used for reconstructions. The Slavic-speaking areas were enlarging, while phonological transformations were intensifying. At the end of the 1st millennium AD (800-1000) – the Late Common Slavic period this language still functioned as one language, with pronunciation changes and dialectal splits in the whole Slavic area. After that period, the Proto-Slavic language is considered to have finished its existence due to the creation of the Old Church Slavonic language. If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here. Submit your recordings to [email protected]. Looking forward to hearing from you!
