Why Kenyan Farmers Won’t Quit Tree Tomato Farming And How It’s Saving Forests

In Nyandarua, what was once degraded and fire-affected forest land is now being brought back to life—by the community. This video follows members of the North Kinangop Community Forest Association as they actively restore forest landscapes through tree planting, protection, and sustainable land use. From clearly demarcated forest blocks to hands-on restoration work, the community is leading efforts to rebuild ecosystems damaged by past wildfires. But this is more than restoration. Alongside conservation, farmers are embracing tree tomato farming, creating a steady source of income. At the same time, local artisans are gaining skills in bamboo value addition, transforming bamboo into useful products and opening new economic opportunities.
