Democracy Will Not Become Without Us: This documentary gives a name to those who defied the harsh reprisals of the Franco regime, which remained entrenched in society and institutions even after the dictator's death. In this documentary, directed by Gemma Soriano and Arantxa Soroa, journalist Carlos del Amor creates a collective album of memories from Azucena, Tino, Simón, Marta, Andreu, and Pepe—ordinary people who, like thousands of other brave souls, raised their voices, often risking their lives, to demand, in universities, factories, and neighborhoods, an end to 40 years of dictatorship and the long-awaited arrival of democracy. All of this took place during a transition that was anything but peaceful. The regime and its repression continued well into 1977. Up to 200 people, mostly young, died in the streets at the hands of far-right gunmen or police bullets, as in the Vitoria massacre, about which we will hear the chilling conversations of the armed officers.
