82nd Anniversary of the Araw ng Kagitingan 04/09/2024

Mt. Samat National Shrine, Pilar, Bataan April 9, 2024 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads the nation in commemorating the 82nd Anniversary of the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) at the Mt. Samat National Shrine in Pilar, Bataan on April 9, 2024. This year's theme, 'Honoring Veterans' Valor: Foundation for a United Filipino People,' underscores the significance of recognizing the courage and sacrifices of veterans in contemporary society.  The primary objective is to cultivate a heightened appreciation for freedom and foster unity among Filipinos, thereby inspiring collective efforts toward a promising future. A solemn tribute unfolds at the marble-clad colonnade as President Marcos Jr., together with United States of America (USA) Charge d'Affaires Robert Ewing and Ambassador Endo Kazuya of Japan, pay their homage by laying wreaths at the historic monument.  Felicisima Dela Cruz, a veteran, then conducts the bell tolling rites, honoring the fallen heroes and perpetuating their enduring legacy in the collective memory of the nation. The Department of National Defense (DND) and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), in partnership with multiple government agencies, have organized a series of events to honor and recognize the heroism of Filipino veterans. The weeklong commemoration running from 5-11 April 2024 comprises a range of formal activities scheduled nationwide.
