DIMAS DE LEÓN: El corrido de la trampa que nadie se atrevió a tenderle de frente en Tamaulipas
DIMAS DE LEÓN: The Ballad of the Trap No One Dared to Set for Him in Tamaulipas On Sunday, September 10th, Dimas de León left Reynosa in his souped-up car. Everyone in Reynosa knew him. For years, he had walked the streets with his gun openly tucked into his waistband—not by accident, but by design. No one dared cross his path. That night, he went to a cabaret to see his lover. What he didn't know was that someone had already set the stage. The night watchman, fearing what Dimas might do, organized the operation with his employees. They took his gun. They blocked his exit. And when he tried to react, they shot him in the back. Oral tradition in Reynosa says it was his lover who tipped them off. The ballad neither confirms nor denies this. It only says that he went to visit her—and leaves it to the listener to draw their own conclusions. Dimas de León rests today in the De León Family Mausoleum at the Guadalupano Pantheon in Reynosa. The corrido was composed by Ramiro Cavazos and immortalized by Los Cadetes de Linares.
