Every December he bought the latest Cadillac on the market. Every year the Federal Highway Police chased him down the same road. And every year he escaped them. Until November 12, 1949. He was returning from Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo for a friend's wedding. The federales were waiting for him on the National Highway. He stepped on the gas as always. And at kilometer 11.60, near Vallecillo, a tire claimed what ten years of pursuit had failed to claim. The corrido says it bluntly: "He placed his trust in his car because it was fast."
