Spectacular TOMAREE COASTAL WALK, from Birubi Beach to One Mile Beach in Port Stephens, NSW #hiking

The spectacular 27km Tomaree Coastal Walk connects the town’s stunning beaches from Shoal Bay to Anna Bay. After four years of development, the upgraded walk was officially opened to the public in September 2023. We divided the 27km walks into 3 days while staying at Ingenia Holidays Middle Rock. In this Part 3 of the Tomaree Coastal Walk undertaken in middle of June, we will be starting from Birubi Beach and walked back to our Glamping Site close to One Mile Beach. The distance is approximately 9km. At Birubi Beach, we could see the amazing and extensive stretch of Stockton Sand Dunes. It’s the largest moving sand dunes in the southern hemisphere stretches 32 km in length. We then walked up to Birubi Headland where the views below were simply stunning. June is the starting month for whales migration to Queensland in search for food and breeding. We were treated with sightings of many whales while walking along the coastline. So thrilled to see the whales in the wild performing all sorts of movements (tail slaps, blows and breaches) for us to watch. Another highlight along the track is the slot canyon just before we reached the One Mile Beach. The rocks forming the landscape were formed 359-298 million years ago in the Carboniferous era. This is the time when the world’s most extensive coal beds were formed and fuelled the modern world. The name “Carboniferous” comes from the Latin word for “coal-bearing”. This is the time when the world’s most extensive coal beds were formed. We were feeling really ecstatic when arriving at One Mile Beach and completing the 3 day self guided walk in Tomaree National Park.
