BLACK SWAN | Balerin ve Dişinin Kutsal Çilesi
One night, while hunting by the lake, Prince Siegfried sees a swan transform into a girl of extraordinary beauty, and falls in love at first sight. This girl, Odette, is captured and cursed by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart; cursed to be a swan by day, she can only become human by night. The only way to break the curse is for Odette to find true love. A ball is being held for the prince to find his bride. Von Rothbart's daughter, Odile, attends the ball disguised as Odette and seduces the prince. The prince, mistaking her for his lover, proposes. By the time he realizes his mistake, it's too late; Odette will remain a swan forever. The young lovers choose to die together rather than live apart. Tragic ending. In some versions, Siegfried defeats Von Rothbart and reunites with Odette. Happy ending. Whether tragic or happy, we see all the stereotypes fostered by fairy tales. The innocent and virtuous woman, the evil and seductive woman, the savior man. Perhaps there's a commonality in ballet and fairy tales: Women can only exist to the extent and in the form permitted by men. And here, there's a reality that transcends fiction. Black Swan is a film about exactly that.
