(A) All dogs are mammals. (A) Therefore, all dogs are animals. (A) Mood : AAA 2. Figure The figure depends on the position of the middle term (M) in the premises. A syllogism has 4 figures. First Figure Major Premise: M – P Minor Premise: S – M Conclusion: S – P Example: All mammals are animals. (M–P) All dogs are mammals. (S–M) Therefore, all dogs are animals. (S–P) Figure = 1 Second Figure Major Premise: P – M Minor Premise: S – M Conclusion: S – P Example: No reptiles are warm-blooded. (P–M) All birds are warm-blooded. (S–M) Therefore, no birds are reptiles. (S–P) Figure = 2 Third Figure Major Premise: M – P Minor Premise: M – S Conclusion: S – P Example: All cats are mammals. (M–P) All cats are animals.
