Surfcasting a Remote New Zealand Coastline | Non-Stop Bites in Perfect Conditions

Surf fishing a remote stretch of the New Zealand coastline in near-perfect conditions, with calm seas, blue skies, and plenty of action. This video marks my first surfcasting session down in South Canterbury on the channel. Fishing alongside a few friends, we hit a busy bite window with multiple rods bending at once, making for a lively session on the beach. Along the way, a surprise fish turned up - my first ever gurnard from this part of the coast - something I’d never caught here before despite many trips over the years. On the second day, I checked out the Waitaki River mouth looking for kahawai. With the river running high and dirty, the fishing wasn’t ideal, but a quick drone flight showed small pockets of fish sitting well outside casting range, around 200 metres out.
