Surf Fishing in Wild New Zealand – Monster Ray and the Best Eating Fish

Surf fishing along the Canterbury coastline on a calm day that delivered plenty of action and a few surprises — a really enjoyable surfcasting session on the beach. Fishing alongside friends, we picked up a solid mix of species throughout the day, with plenty of gurnard coming ashore and a few decent school sharks added to the mix. One rod eventually loaded up into a long, powerful fight with something much bigger than expected — an unexpected battle that turned into a real highlight of the session. There was also another heavy fight that had us convinced we were connected to something big again, only to end in a very strange result.
